Many religious systems embrace the idea of living the power of the Spirit. The Christian tradition encourages life lived this way. It gives love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). It gives us wisdom (James 1:5). It helps us to love God above all and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40).
In Buddhism we read, “If you think of me, any fear, terror, or standing of hair on end that may arise in you will pass away” (Samyutta Nikaya 11.3). In Sikhism, one of Guru Nanak's most important teachings was to use the power of Simran to transform and elevate consciousness. In Islam, we learn this, God the almighty, “says that He helped them with His spirit. The companions of the Holy Prophet, sallallaho alaihi wa sallam, were illiterate – their Prophet (Our Chief Master Muhammad sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) was also illiterate. But the wisdom that they dished out to the world could not be thought of even by the greatest of the scholars; they were helped by God.”
