Accepting Constructive Criticism
— The first and best function of constructive criticism is to recognize merits not defects. That said, many people have difficulty discerning between constructive criticism and negative feedback and therefore reject any value that may exist in remarks taken as critical. Improvement comes as a matter primarily of two factors: the first is practice and the second is criticism. Without the feedback that can lead us, without the coaching that counsels, without the constructive criticism that demands we improve—we will fail to do so!
Not all criticism is an attack!
Still, for many, criticism is a threat they defend against. Loved ones may even stop trying to assist. Employers may hold employees back because of the unwillingness to listen openly and without judgment or defense. Not all criticism is an attack.
